Can we go plastic-free in the grape category?

I feel like I spend a good percentage of my days talking about plastic. While it does serve a purpose for many items in the produce department, there are many who’d like to see a plastic-free produce department.

Is it possible?

How?

…what about paper totes?

Dayka & Hackett recently launched a new Eco-Tote, a plastic-free, recyclable, reusable and even biodegradable tote bag for grapes. While paper toes aren’t necessarily a new thing for the produce department, the plastic-free movement could bring them to greater prominence for a certain percentage of retailers out there.

But why do we have to package grapes at all? I’ve seen certain retailers who offer bulk grape displays, but they’re few and far between.

Here’s why, and a look at Dayka & Hackett’s BB #:189566new Eco-Tote.
