Cherry volatility throws off pricing index

cherry data

The Northwest cherry season got off to a rocky start with lighter supplies than usual, and as a result, the USDA did not report pricing on cherries from early June until the end of June.

This threw off the weekly price index from ProduceIQ BB #:368175, which Blue Book has teamed with to bring the ProduceIQ Index to its readers each week. The index provides a produce industry price benchmark using 40 top commodities to provide data for decision making.

I spoke with Mark Campbell, CEO of ProduceIQ, about how this affected his index, the outlook for the rest of cherry season and what to look for in the overall produce market as many areas’ local deals hit the market.
