For the first in-person event in a year, the Texas International Produce Association’s Viva Fresh Expo had three key objectives: get people together — while addressing safety issues — and let them do business.

Pamela checks in from Dallas at the Viva Fresh, the first in-person produce industry event in more than a year.

It’s been almost 13 months since the last in-person event held in the fresh produce industry, the Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Exposure in Tampa, FL.

After the success of last year’s Clean Eating Challenge, Viva Fresh launched its second annual health and wellness campaign on October 1.

Following months of internal discussions and planning, as well as extensive polling of exhibitors and retail-foodservice attendees, our findings suggested there was not only the ability but also a strong preference to move forward with certain in-person experiences (with an emphasis on safety) yet balancing the concerns of today’s world by providing content and engagement opportunities in the on-line space as well.

The Texas International Produce Association is inviting industry members to register for the second annual Clean Eating Challenge starting on October 1 and culminates at the 2021 Viva Fresh Expo in Dallas next March.

Not everything has thrived in the midst of a pandemic but the Viva Fresh Clean Eating Challenge participants have proven that they can still deliver positive results with a more than 160 pound cumulative weight loss over six months.

Going forward, the 2021 Viva Fresh Expo is scheduled for March 23-28, 2021 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.

Expo West and South by Southwest were the first two big industry events to be cancelled or postponed due to concerns about coronavirus, or COVID-19. On March 11, three more joined the list.
