Peruvian avocado exports rise in 2024 Q1

In the first quarter of this year, Peruvian exports of fresh avocado reached 105,034 tons for $233 million, reflecting an increase of 35 percent in volume and 46 percent in value compared to what was recorded in the same period of 2023, as reported by Agraria.

Likewise, from January to March 2024, the average price in the international market amounted to $2.22 per kilogram, reflecting an increase of 8 percent compared to what was reported in the same period last year.

In the first three months of this year, Peruvian avocados reached 29 destination markets. The main ones were the Netherlands, with 39 percent participation; followed by Spain, with 22 percent; and China, with 15 percent.

To the Netherlands, shipments totaled 41,172 tons for $92 million. Compared to 2023, this was 35 percent more in volume and 48 percent more in value. The average price was 10 percent higher, reaching $2.23 per kilogram. The Peruvian exporters that stood out the most in this market were Añay Peruvian Fruits S.A.C., with 9 percent participation; and Westfalia Fruit Perú S.A.C., with 8 percent.

Regarding the Spanish market, it acquired 22,324 tons for $52 million, which was 34 percent more in volume and 43 percent more in value than in 2023. Likewise, the average price in this market was 7 percent higher, leaving it at $2.34 per kilogram. As for the Peruvian exporting companies that stood out the most, these were Westfalia Fruit Perú S.A.C. and Marand Company S.A.C., both with a 9 percent stake.

Closing the podium was the Asian giant with a total purchased of 14,458 tons for $34 million; that is, 30 percent more in volume and 38 percent more in value than the first quarter of last year.

Regarding the average price, this amounted to $2.36 per kilogram, 6 percent higher, thus being one of the highest in the market. The Peruvian agro-exporters that stood out the most in this country were EyC Export E.I.R.L., with 16 percent participation; and Marand Company S.A.C., with 14 percent.
