Now THAT’s a citrus promotion

I generally try to avoid being a keyboard warrior and getting into arguments on social media…except when it comes to produce.

The other day I saw a post in my favorite Facebook group to watch about shopping and meal planning on a budget. One of the posters asked for advice about buying produce on a budget in the winter because “all the fruit is out of season.”

Insert record screech.

Hold up.

I get that people on a budget aren’t in to spending $3 a pound for strawberries, or $4 for a mango, but there’s one (maybe two) glaring omissions in this kind of thinking.

  1. Apples are fantastic right now, and plentiful.
  2. CITRUS.

This is peak season for domestic citrus. Perhaps we need less subtle reminders than HUGE displays and low prices? (sarcasm)

H-E-B’s Central Market BB #:106490 has our backs with this year’s Citrus Fest. In his latest Love Note from Central Market, my husband sent me these photos yesterday.

Wow. They knock it out of the park every time.

Is Brix level signage the right move for most shoppers? Probably not. But for savvy Central Market shoppers, I can see it working.
