Chilean fresh peach and nectarine exports registered record figures in February, with $72 million and an increase of 18.7 percent over February 2023, according to figures from ProChile, reported by Simfruit.
In addition to fresh peaches and nectarines, which in the first two months of the year have accumulated shipments of $112 million, fresh cherry exports stand out with $1.94 billion in January and February 2024, increasing 26.4 percent compared to last year, and fresh blueberries, with shipments of $26 million, 44.2 percent more than in the same period of 2023.
The largest market for the shipment of fresh fruit was China, where exports were made for $1.95 billion, increasing by 30.6 percent compared to the same period in 2023 and where the main products were fresh cherries, fresh peaches and nectarines, and fresh blueberries. They were followed by the U.S. with $382 million (+7.3 percent), the Netherlands with $99 million (+10.8 percent) and the UK with $46 million (+6.3 percent).
“Fresh fruit is a great ambassador for our country and an important sector for our exports,” said Lorena Sepúlveda, National Director of ProChile.
“We are in the middle of the season and the increases recorded, compared to last year, are very relevant. At ProChile we work together with the private sector to open new markets, promote and diversify exports, and this year, when we celebrate 5 decades promoting our Chilean goods and services to the world, we hope to continue strengthening this link and, of course, the exports of this sector.”
