“I heard a pumpkin a day keeps the goblins away.” —a play on the Pembrokeshire saying.
The pumpkin crop was off to a rough start due to heavy rains in all the growing regions. This caused the crop to start about 10 days later from our estimated start date. Quality surprisingly is outstanding! We expected some issues due to the rains but thankfully this wasn’t the case. Volumes are steady and should remain this way with no interruptions thru October.
The market started off strong due to the late start as well as demand from the west due to a heat wave that slowed their crop down. Good weather thru out all growing regions how brought on good steady yields. We expect good promotional volumes weather permitting.
We are currently growing in the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Sonora. We are in our third season and have been growing every year. We expect to grow this program yearly as the feedback from our customers has been very positive.
The market is currently steady and expect to stay this way thru October. We need to be very careful on not getting this market too high as movement will slow down. We have till around the 18th / 20th to have the last pumpkins in the stores.
