Apeel Sciences hires Natalie Shuman in marketing

Apeel Sciences, Goleta, CA, has hired Natalie Shuman as director of trade and retail marketing.

Apeel says the move is needed as it continues to expand in grower, distributor and retail partnerships. The company continues to grow in the produce industry with its plant-based coatings for fresh fruits and vegetables, which fight food waste.

Shuman has 15 years of marketing experience with more than 10 in the produce industry, mostly with Sun World International. She was most recently director of marketing for Concentric Ag.

“Joining Apeel allows me to return to my passion for produce marketing, with the added bonus of being a part of a purpose-driven company with an incredible mission,” Shuman says in a news release.

“Natalie brings a new perspective to our team, and her passion for the food industry and natural creativity make her the perfect fit for us as we look to take Apeel to the next level,” says Michelle Masek, head of marketing for Apeel.

Costco, Harp’s and Kroger were some of the first retailers to sign on with avocados treated with Apeel, earlier this year.

In August, former Sun World executive Gordon Robertson joined Apeel as chief revenue officer.

The company recently expanded into citrus and asparagus products and is exhibiting at the upcoming PMA Fresh Summit convention in Orlando, FL.
