There’s a new name among the Fortune Magazine 100 Best Companies to Work For list, one that’s familiar to many in the fresh produce industry.
Cincinnati-based Total Quality Logistics ranked No. 84 this year on the annual list, joining perennial favorite grocery retailers Wegmans, Publix and Nugget Market.
TQL was lauded for offering perks like compressed work weeks, telecommuting, health insurance for part-time employees and college tuition reimbursement. The company has nearly 6,000 employees on 57 work sites.
Rochester, NY-based Wegmans, ranked No. 3, dropped a spot this year, but has been named to this list for all 22 years of its existence. The same goes for Lakeland, FL-based Publix Super Markets, which jumped from No. 47 to No. 12 in 2019.
Publix also ranked No. 1 on Fortune’s Best Big Companies to Work For list, which recognizes companies with more than 100,000 employees.
“It is an honor to be recognized as a great place to work,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones, in a press release. “Our associates contribute to Publix’s success every day, and I couldn’t be any prouder of the legacy we’re continuing to build.”
Woodland, CA-based Nugget Market has been on the list for the past 14 years, coming in at No. 84 this year. The company’s perks include 100% health coverage, and an average of 19 applicants per job opening.
The annual 100 Best Companies to Work For list is compiled based on company scores on specific attributes. Random employees are surveyed on attributes like honesty and quality of communication by managers and authenticity of relationships with colleagues. The survey results make up two-thirds of the company’s score with the remaining third based on a Culture Audit questionnaire about pay, benefits, hiring, communication and diversity.
