Vending Nut Co. recalls Sunflower Kernel Products Because Of Possible Health Risks

Vending Nut Company is voluntarily recalling a limited number of sunflower kernel products that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The products were packaged and sold at Vending Nut Company’s Ft. Worth, TX facility between the dates of February 24, 2016 and March 9.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after Vending Nut Co. was notified by our supplier that the sunflower kernels used were recalled due to possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.

Consumers are urged not to consume these products. Consumers who purchased these products may bring them back to our store for a refund or simply discard them. Consumers seeking information may email or call 1-800-429-9260 Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Central Time.

Customers should check their purchased products to confirm that none of the products are present or available for consumption. Please contact Vending Nut Co. at to arrange for disposal or return of the product.
