Company Press Release – The Sykes Company, Rio Rio, Ariz., announced that it has hired Lesley Sykes as executive vice president.
Sykes is responsible for identifying and executing growth opportunities by responding to the needs of the evolving industry landscape. She started at the company full-time ahead of the 2018-19 season that began in October, and has hit the ground running with the development of the company’s very first organics line, which is set to debut later this month.
Sykes has more than a decade of experience in fresh produce, jump starting her career in the industry as supply chain manager at the Boston-based food hub, Red Tomato. She also worked as a market research consultant in Costa Rica and was most recently at SCS Global Services in Emeryville, Calif., working with international growers to provide visibility to their sustainability programs. She is the daughter of Bill Sykes, the company’s founder and president.
“Lesley brings us the know-how to address the rapidly changing industry and find innovative ways to meet the needs of our customers and grower-partners. Her passion for fresh produce and unique background in market differentiation make her a perfect fit for us,” said Bill Sykes.
The Sykes Company has specialized in marketing squash and watermelon imports out of Nogales for the past 40 years. The company’s new organics and sweet delicata lines are yet other signs that it is making investments for the future. It also recently rolled out a new brand, including an updated logo, packaging and website. The site, www.thesykesco.com, features farm photos, product availability, handling and preparation methods, and more.
