We are writing today to express our deep concerns with the intended implementation on October 5th of CFIA’s new temporary preventative control measures for romaine lettuce imported from the U.S.

Effective October 7, 2020, the CFIA will require importers to either provide proof that romaine lettuce destined for import into Canada does not originate from counties in the Salinas Valley, or provide an official certificate of analysis from an accredited laboratory confirming that the lettuce has below-detectable levels of E. coli.

The Food Recall Warning issued on September 19, 2020 has been updated to include additional product information. This additional information was identified during the CFIA food safety investigation.
