Washington, D.C. The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) BB #:378962 took to Capitol Hill on January 3, to welcome new members of Congress and current congressional friends of IFPA.  Members of the government relations team visited both freshmen and returning members to begin and build the relationships essential to advancing the wide portfolio of issues critical to the fresh produce and floral supply chains.

“Building relationships with our elected officials is one of the most important things that we can do as an industry to advocate for the issues and policies that can help our industry serve our consumers and our world,” said IFPA’s Chief Public Policy Officer, Robert Guenther. “As the DC team is on Capitol Hill today greeting elected officials, we invite industry members to also take the opportunity to welcome our Members of Congress.  Together, we can advocate for a strong produce and floral business environment to enhance prosperity and create a vibrant future for all.”

Earlier this week, IFPA shared a Member of Congress Engagement Checklist with their members, detailing ways to reach out to members of the 118th Congress. The suggestions included:

  • Send a personalized welcome email to your Members of Congress;
  • Share your voice on LinkedIn and Twitter, using the #FRESHCongress graphic and hashtag and;
  • Sign up to meet with your Member of Congress and staff in your District in the beginning of 2023.

“IFPA looks forward to working with the 118th Congress, their staff and our members to find opportunity and solutions to challenges that are key to our industry’s continued growth and success,” said Guenther. “Stay tuned for additional advocacy events being announced in the coming days, including the virtual Fresh Faces of Congress Meet & Greet Series.”

About the International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA)

IFPA logo

The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) is the largest and most diverse international association serving the entire fresh produce and floral supply chain and the only to seamlessly integrate world-facing advocacy and industry-facing support. We exist to bring the industry together to create a vibrant future for all. We grow our member’s prosperity by conducting advocacy; connecting people and ideas; and offering guidance that allows us all to take action with purpose and confidence. While IFPA is built on the legacy of United Fresh and Produce Marketing Association, it is not just a combination. It is transformational. Recognizing the industry required an even more powerful and unified voice, the leaders of the former United Fresh and Produce Marketing Association chose not to merge, but rather to create an entirely new organization to supersede their organizations, effective January 1, 2022.
