BrightFarms adds to salad kit lineup

IRVINGTON, N.Y. (Feb. 10, 2022) – BrightFarms, the New York-based leading supplier of indoor-grown leafy greens, today announced the launch of “Crunch Kits,” a premium new salad kit option.

Two initial kit varieties, Chickpea Caesar and Sunny Bacon, will be available in Illinois supermarkets this January, followed by additional regions throughout 2022. Salad kits are the fastest-growing segment in both the packaged salads and indoor farming segments, creating a unique opportunity for category innovation and growth.

“We’ve been listening closely to what our retail partners and consumers are asking for, and heard the need for a higher quality, more premium, salad kit,” said Abby Prior, BrightFarms Chief Commercial Officer.

“Our research shows the largest barrier to purchasing a salad kit is the quality of the greens. BrightFarms Crunch Kits offer the fresh, crisp, high-quality salad greens that our customers want, with the convenience of a prepared kit that includes premium toppings, cheese, and dressing. It’s more affordable than a fast-casual salad and ready to go at home in your fridge.”

BrightFarms “Crunch Kits” are made with fresher, sustainably grown salad greens, and delicious, premium toppings.

The two varieties (7oz) are sized to be eaten on their own or as a shared side:

? Chickpea Caesar Crunch Kit™: A delightful twist on a culinary classic. This kit starts with fresh BrightFarms Sunny Crunch® greens, topped with crispy chickpeas, organic quinoa, shaved parmesan, garlic crouton crumbles, and paired with a vegan Caesar dressing.
? Sunny Bacon Crunch Kit™: This savory salad will have you beaming. This kit starts with fresh BrightFarms Sunny Crunch® greens topped with uncured bacon bits, shredded white cheddar cheese, sunflower seeds, crispy onions, herb croutons, and paired with a vegan Ranch dressing.

The salad kit market is a $2.8B segment, representing 33% of total packaged salad offerings with a 3-year CAGR +12%. The Indoor Grown market is the fastest growing segment in packaged salads (vs. organic or conventional field grown) with a 3-year CAGR +23%.

BrightFarms’ new “Crunch Kits” provide fresh and tasty alternatives to traditional, field-grown kits and provide a more affordable and convenient alternative to expensive fast casual salads. As indoor-farmed leafy greens continue to grow in availability nationwide, BrightFarms will lead the way with fresh, innovative produce options.

BrightFarms currently has greenhouses located in Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Illinois, and New Hampshire. The company leads the indoor farming industry in retail availability with over 4,000 stores carrying its greens on store shelves nationwide.

“Crunch Kits” are available at several Illinois-area retailers including Roundy’s, Sullivan’s and Caputo’s, and will roll out to additional U.S. regions later this year. For more information about BrightFarms and their fresh produce offerings, visit
