USDA awards $15MM in TEFAP produce box contracts

The USDA awarded on December 21 nearly $15 million in contracts to 23 produce companies for the latest round of The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) produce box program.

USDA ordered 2,138,171 mixed produce boxes for a total of $14,936,490 to be distributed by contract winners from January 1, 2022 to July 15, 2022. The per-box prices ranged from $5.68 to $46.

A USDA spokesperson said another TEFAP Fresh Produce Package solicitation is scheduled to be issued before the end of the 2022 fiscal year, which began October 1, 2021, and will end September 30, 2022.

Last month, USDA issued a solicitation for just over 2 million boxes.

The current round, which runs from the beginning of October to the end of December, pays $3.4 million for 436,000 boxes.

The 2022 round of contracts range from as small as $7,400 to as large as $6.6 million.
