Peruvian avocado exports reached a new record of $949 million through July 2021, according to Roberto Sanchez, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism.

This reflects an increase of 47 percent in sales when compared to the same period last year ($645 million) and 14 percent higher compared to the entire last year, a previous record of $834 million. This figure does not yet include data for August in which the season ended.

Sanchez said the growth was made possible by greater investments to increase in production and the exportable supply, as well as lower export prices in the main world markets.

“I want to salute the hard work of the country’s farmers, cooperatives, associations and businessmen who have made the Peruvian avocado a product recognized worldwide for its quality,” Sanchez told Agraria.

“In our management, we will support their efforts with more training and technical assistance within the framework of regional export plans, so that together we can make Peru become the first supplier in the world.”

The main export were the EU with $469 million, the U.S. with $159 million, and Chile with $109 million. South Korea also stands out considering that it almost quadrupled its avocado imports from $8 million to $30 million.
