The Produce Reporter Week in Review – September 17, 2021

Live from the Organic Produce Summit in Monterey, CA, Pamela tells Greg the expo floor buzz was actually about an event six weeks from now and whether it will still go forward. That would be PMA Fresh Summit scheduled for New Orleans.

[Editor’s note: on Sept. 17, PMA officially canceled Fresh Summit 2021]

Another big topic was controlled environment agriculture and how organic fits into that growing segment of the industry. Growers have focused on whether you need to grow in dirt to be called organic, but Pamela says surveys show consumers aren’t motivated by that but rather the lack of pesticides.

Plus breaking retail personnel news from the expo.
