Chile exported less fruit but higher value in first half of 2021

A total of 2.04 million tons of fruit exports from Chile were registered from January-June 2021, totaling $4.441 billion FOB without accounting for the Value Variation Report- which was 1 percent less in volume and 4 percent more in value than in the same time period of the previous year, as reported by Fedefruta.

81 percent of this value corresponded to fresh fruit, 15 percent to processed fruit (juicer, oils, canned, frozen, dehydrated), and 4 percent to dried fruits (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, among others).

Fresh fruit reached sales of 1.68 billion tons totaling $3.576 billion FOB during this time period, registering a decrease in volume of 2 percent and an increase in value of 3 percent when compared to the same time period as last year.

The main fresh fruit exported were cherries, registering 266,000 tons equaling $1.35 billion FOB, reflecting an increase of 83 percent in volume and 41 percent in value when compared to the same time period of the previous year, mostly destined to China.

This was followed by table grapes, registering 520,000 tons equaling $847.5 million FOB, reflecting a decrease of 13 percent in volume and 17 percent in value when compared to the same time period of the previous year with shipments mainly destined to the U.S. and China.

Blueberries exported 95,938 tons equaling $481.15 million FOB, registering an increase of 14 percent in volume and value when compared to the same time period of the previous year with the main destinations being the U.S., the Netherlands, and the UK.

These three fruits account of 75 percent of the total value of fresh fruit exported in the period analyzed.
