Digital freight technology fights waste

The fight against food waste has gotten a lot of attention recently, but any kind of waste is bad business.

Hwy Haul, BB #:361445 a leading digital freight platform for fresh produce, based in Santa Clara, CA, aims to cut produce industry waste through digitalization.

“Food waste is a worldwide problem,” said Hwy Haul COO Zahed Khan, November 9. “30 percent of the production of produce is wasted, often through logistics failure.”

He said his company’s digital freight platform cuts that waste.

Hwy Haul (pronounced Highway Haul) was formed in 2018 by a handful of Walmart alumni, and it’s gaining traction in the fresh produce industry, Khan said.

About 90 percent of the company’s business is in fresh produce, and it got a business boost by exhibiting at last year’s PMA Fresh Summit and participating in the virtual Fresh Summit last month.

“We have thousands of trucking companies in our portal, and we have very high retention rates,” Khan said. “We need to create better awareness.”

He also said Hwy Haul works with many of the largest retailers in the country, including Walmart and Sam’s Club, Amazon, Costco, Kroger and Target.

Khan said the company wants to cut food waste and help the transportation industry run more efficiently.

A recent story on Forbes.com highlighted Hwy Haul’s CEO Syed Aman.

Additionally, Hwy Haul announced in the spring that it is extending its technology capabilities to all members of the Blue Book Services.
