Chuck’s Transport expands services with new headquarters

SHERTZ, TX—Chuck’s Transport Inc. BB #:152079 has a lot to celebrate in its 26th year in business.

The company, founded by Emerson “Chuck” Nelson in 1994, has just completed construction of a new facility with temperature controlled storage and expanded capabilities, including salvage and local deliveries.

The new facility is everything you’d expect from Chuck’s Transport, which prides itself on exceptional service, Nelson says.

“The business is ever changing as are customer demands and expectations,” he says. “We provide local and long-haul transportation solutions to a multitude of shippers, all with individual requirements and specifications.”

The last time I visited with Chuck’s Transport, I spent a few hours watching loads being built in real time, with the team circled together in one central office talking back and forth in a complicated dance.

The new office has the same energy, with a lot more technology built in. Trucks can be monitored – and controlled – from a click of a mouse. Customers also are able to monitor shipments in real time from the company’s recently-launched website: www.chuckstransport.com.

“All departments work closely together to ensure the fastest response times for our carriers and customers,” Nelson says. “We have dedicated carriers, customers, and employees that have been with our organization since the company started.”

Nelson got his start in the produce business with C.H. Robinson and took a liking to the transportation side of the business.

“After three years, I knew I wanted more,” he says. “My expertise has always been on the temperature-controlled aspect of the business. Every item that requires temperature control requires a more demanding level of understanding.”

The company has expanded from fresh produce into meat, poultry, floral, and frozen.

Services like reworking shifted, distressed, or rejected loads are something that wasn’t possible without cooler space, but are increasingly becoming a bigger part of the business, Nelson says. Helping carriers deal with the logistics challenge of electronic device logging (ELD) has as well. Chuck’s helps carriers manage delays or detained loads by bringing it in-house to redeliver for a customer’s needs.

The new facility encompasses 10,000 square feet with four different temperature-controlled storage rooms, and it is also equipped with a generator.

“These new docks and cold rooms have helped improve time management for both us and our customers,” Nelson says.

Nelson says the company is just getting started realizing the facility’s full potential.

“Our mission statement is to give every customer the same service, whether it is one load a month or ten loads a day,” Nelson says. “We strive to give every one of our valued accounts the SHAFT – Service, Honesty, Availability and Follow-Through.”
