Porterville, CA, (July 15, 2020) —Homegrown Organic Farms BB #:161459 is excited to announce the addition of Organic Kiwis to their one-stop-shop fruit lineup this fall.

The new jumbo variety was developed in Greece and was brought to the U.S. in 2010. This special variety is nearly 50% larger than the common Hayward variety and boasts exceptional nutritional value. It is the unlikely result of a naturally occurring genetic mutation with the chance of viability of 2-million-to-1. Today they call it a “gift from the gods.”

Scott Mabs, Homegrown Organic Farms’ CEO said, “Adding Kiwis to our organic offering was a natural next step as we work to continue to fulfill our buyer’s organic fruit needs. We are excited to be on the cutting edge of variety development in such a unique category.”

Stephen Paul, Category Director for Homegrown Organic Farms said, “We are pleased to be able to add this unique variety to our offerings. As one of the most diverse organic fruit marketers in the industry, we are working hard to provide top-of-the-line varieties and this is no exception.”

The farmer behind this new variety is Jerry Kliewer and his son Jerin. Together they grow peaches, plums, nectarines and kiwis, including this new Jumbo variety along with Hayward Kiwis and Gold Kiwis. The Kliewer’s have partnered with the Greek breeders of this new variety and maintain the exclusive rights to the genetics in the US. Homegrown is excited to partner with the Kleiwers to bring this fantastic piece of fruit to their customer base and round out their one-stop-shop offering.

Initial offerings will include bulk, 1lb and 3lb clamshells. The company expects to begin shipping organic kiwis from Kingsburg, CA in November 2020.
