Twin River adds organic citrus to fresh lineup

Twin Citrus Panoramic

Twin River BB #:327423 is excited to announce the addition of organic citrus to their already robust berry lineup, just in time for summer snacking. Peruvian Satsumas are first to land this week, followed by juicy Murcotts and Minneolas in August.

The program is a natural continuation of a thriving partnership with one of the company’s primary blueberry growers in the Huaral region of Peru, located about an hour north of Lima.

What started as a hobby for the family in the 1980’s, has since grown into a second-generation farm. Cultivos Organicos is nestled in a valley with ideal growing conditions and the family is committed to organic excellence. Pioneers of the area, the farm has been utilizing organic growing methods since day one and became certified organic in 2006.

The Huaral region is well suited to both blueberries and citrus as it has a constant water supply which provides cool nights, warm days and a low relative humidity. This, paired with high levels of illumination, produces beautiful fruit in an open window for US consumers.

Zane Coleman, Operations Manager & Grower Relations says, “the constant feedback loop that we have with the grower allows us to continually improve all aspects of production and throughout the lifecycle of the fruit.”

Harvested at its peak, the first pack is showing a perfect brix level between 10-13 with an acid ratio between 1.1-1.2. This single source program allows Twin River to offer a premium product while streamlining the process to ensure minimal breaks in the cold chain and maximizing return to the local agriculture economy. The Twin River team likes to say, “it’s always local season somewhere”, and this Peruvian program fits perfectly within that outlook by ensuring that kids of all ages have a sweet, portable and vitamin packed snack to enjoy all summer long!

“The grab-and-go convenience and ease of digital merchandising on the bagged fruit is a great value-add for retailers”, says Mel Sharp, Twin River Sales Program Manager.

Satsuma supply will be steady through July with both bulk and vexar 12×2 lb bag availability. Email info@trberries.com for more information on this program today.
