Five of the top 10 retailers to work at are somewhere you can buy fresh produce.
The annual list published by Indeed is calculated based on employee ratings, and featured San Antonio-based H.E. Butt Co. at No. 1, Issaquah, WA-based Costco Wholesale at No. 3, and Rochester, NY-based Wegmans Markets at No. 5.
Others in the Top 25 were QuikTrip, Tulsa, OK, at No. 6, Lakeland, FL-based Publix Super Markets at No. 9, and Austin, TX-based Whole Foods Market at No. 19.
In a blog post announcing the list, Indeed credited the top ranked retail employers for their efforts to emphasize the in-store experience.
“Even in the age of instant online shopping fulfillment, consumers still value the in-store experience, especially younger shoppers,” the post said. “Despite ongoing disruption in brick-and-mortar retail, research shows that even Gen Z consumers – often described as digital natives – still value the aesthetic of a well-curated store experience, where they can disconnect form social media and the digital world as they shop.”
H-E-B, Costco and Wegmans were in last year’s top five, and this is the third year in a row H-E-B was ranked no. 1.
Indeed says employees valued “the support of individual growth and potential for advancement, as well as flexible hours, fun and staff that cares.”
Costco was credited for its supportive management and fast-paced environment.
“Everyone is willing to help and teach you,” one employee told Indeed. “From the day you start to wherever you want to reach in your Costco career.”
At Wegmans, everyone works together, the post said.
“All the employees understand the values that this company upholds and can admire everything that management does not only for their customers, but their employees,” an employee told Indeed.
