The February 1 U.S. Holdings report from the USApple Association showed fresh apple holdings are 7% less than the 5-year average, and 12% less than last year.
The Falls Church, VA-based organization said total fresh holdings were 78.9 million boxes on Feb. 1, down from 90 million boxes on Feb 1 2018.
Red Delicious, with 21,650,755 boxes left makes up 27% of total fresh apple holdings, volume that variety on Feb. 1 is down more than 20% over the past three years.
Honeycrisp has more than 6.5 million boxes remaining, up 106% in holdings over the past three years.
Other notable gains and losses include Fuji up 9% over the past three years, and Gold Delicious down 32%.
