Safeway will open two new stores in Santa Rosa and Petaluma on December 21. This brings the number to six new Bay Area stores this year, the other recent grand openings include: Pacifica, Walnut Creek, Oakland and San Jose.
Safeway continues to add thousands of jobs to the Bay Area each year and these new stores bring an estimated 100 new jobs. “We are excited for this opportunity to open new stores and create new jobs in the community,” said Tom Schwilke, President of Safeway Northern California.
In celebration of the store openings, Committee on the Shelterless (COTS) and Social Advocates for Youth will be presented with $2,000 charitable contributions from The Safeway Foundation. The Safeway Foundation focuses on giving locally to help strengthen neighborhoods and change lives. The check presentation will take place in each store with Safeway management and organization representatives. Press is invited to attend. See below for details. In addition, Safeway and Hormel will donate 200 hams to Redwood Empire Food Bank and COTS.

USDA Choice Quality Beef, Prime & Grass Fed Beef
Our full-service butcher block features a variety of USDA Choice quality beef cuts, a more premium cut of meat. It’s perfectly aged, guaranteed tender and has more marbling for juiciness and flavor. Our butchers are on hand to discuss custom cuts, cooking techniques, and can cut and prepare anything to order.
Full Service Deli
Safeway offers an extensive line of Boar’s Head premium deli meat and cheeses as well as a wide range of freshly prepared meals, including whole roasted chickens, fresh hand-battered fried chicken and fresh sushi. Our friendly deli staff will make made-to-order sandwiches using our freshly baked bread. We also have many ready-to-serve options ranging from hot or cold soup, green salads and “grab and go” meals.
Beer, Wine & Liquor
The wine selection includes over 250 Sonoma County wines and expanded local offerings, such as Valley of the Moon, Jacuzzi and Battaglini. The store offers an assortment of liquor, as well as craft and locally brewed beers like Lagunitas, Bear Republic and Sonoma Cider. Shoppers who purchase any six bottles of wine and or liquor will save an additional 10% every day.
